Mechanical Design Engineer

We are on the lookout for a Mechanical Design Engineer with Repligen Ireland. We are a life sciences company focused on the development, production and commercialization of high-value consumable products used in the process of manufacturing biological drugs.
You’ll be part of a cross functional team of 12 highly motivated and collaborative colleagues that will ll collaborate and provide design expertise to the manufacturing Engineering department in the design, manufacture, documentation, and continuous improvement of equipment and tooling for the production of medical devices.

Reports to: Design Engineering Manager
This role will be based in Waterford and will report to the Design Engineering Manager. You will require expertise in mould tool design and development, as well as experience in mould flow simulation software. You will support the Senior Lead Engineer of the Consumable & Moulding Design Technology cell.
The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, and optimizing moulds and related tooling for the manufacturing of various products. They will work closely with cross-functional teams and cells within the Design team, including product development, manufacturing, and quality, to ensure that the moulds meet design requirements and are optimized for production.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop and optimize moulds and related tooling for the manufacturing of various products
- Use mould flow simulation software to analyse and optimize mould designs
- Work closely with cross-functional teams, including product development, manufacturing, and quality, to ensure that the moulds meet design requirements and are optimized for production
- Participate in design reviews and provide input for design improvements
- Create and maintain design documentation, including 3D models, 2D drawings, and BOMs
- Identify opportunities for cost reduction and process improvements
- Troubleshoot and resolve mould-related issues in production
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in mould tool design and development
- Proficiency in mould flow simulation software (e.g. SolidWorks Plastics)
- Proficiency in CAD software (e.g. SolidWorks)
- Experience in manufacturing processes and materials related to injection moulding
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work in a team environment
Preferred Requirements

- Experience in working with LSR would be a distinct advantage.
- Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
- Experience in a regulated industry (e.g. medical device)
- Knowledge of statistical process control (SPC) and/or design of experiments (DOE)
- Experience with project management and/or leading cross-functional teams
