SETU CPD Engagement Programme for Industry
SETU Carlow Department of Built Environment is running a New In-person CPD Engagment Programme for Industry.
The programme consists of 4 CPD seminars throughout the year. Each session will have an interactive workshop element that will ensure there is collaboration and peer to peer learning benefits for candidates.

Seminar 3: Geothermal Energy
The Problem
- What is geothermal energy? What is the source of this energy?
- Overview of the geothermal resources in Ireland and in particular the resources in the South East of Ireland.
- Hands-on practical element including on-line sources that allow assessment of available geothermal resources for potential projects
- How to develop a geothermal source, using either closed loop, open loop, shallow or deep drilling
- Understanding the need for regulation in the use of this resource
The Presenter
Jer Keohane is a Senior Lecturer in Civil Engineering at SETU Carlow, a Chartered Environmental Engineer and Fellow of The Chartered Institute of Water and Environmental Management (CIWEM). He has 40 years’ experience in the water and geotechnical engineering sectors and has worked in a variety of roles in industry and academia. He is currently supervising a research masters project on the Geothermal Resources of Carlow Town at SETU Carlow.
